  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes + cooling and freezing time

Description

The Christmas Tree Cake is a delightful and festive dessert perfect for the holiday season. This recipe transforms a simple rectangular cake into a stunning Christmas tree, making it not just a treat, but a decorative centerpiece for any holiday table. The process involves baking your favorite cake mix in a rectangular pan and then cutting it into triangular pieces to form the shape of a Christmas tree. The cake is then creatively frosted, typically in green, and adorned with candy cane pieces to represent the trunk, colored sugar for boughs, and gumdrops that mimic lights or ornaments. This recipe is not only about creating a delicious cake but also about enjoying the holiday spirit through a fun and engaging baking experience. It’s an excellent choice for both experienced bakers and those looking to try their hand at festive cake decorating.

Ingredients

  • Your favorite cake mix (for a 13x9x2-inch rectangular cake)
  • Required ingredients for cake mix (usually water, oil, and eggs)
  • Green frosting (or white frosting and green food coloring)
  • Candy cane pieces
  • Colored sugar
  • Gumdrops

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake as directed for a 13x9x2-inch rectangular pan. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove and cool completely for about 1 hour.
  2. Freeze the cake uncovered for 1 hour to make frosting easier.
  3. Cut the cake diagonally from the middle of one short side to each corner on the opposite side, creating 3 triangular pieces.
  4. Arrange 2 outer pieces with straight 13-inch sides together on a foil-covered tray or cutting board to form a tree shape. Frost the top.
  5. Place the remaining center piece on top of the frosted base.
  6. Frost the sides and top of the cake. Press candy cane pieces into the end of the tree to form a trunk.
  7. Sprinkle colored sugar over the cake to resemble boughs and arrange gumdrops to look like lights or ornaments.
